## About Grok Imagine (T2V)

Grok Imagine's text-to-video variant generates a video clip from a written prompt alone. It runs on grok-imagine-video, the workhorse video model of xAI's Imagine API, which reached developers in January 2026. The same lineage powers the consumer Grok app, where Imagine has produced short animated clips with sound since July 2025 and where the February 2026 Imagine 1.0 update pushed consumer clips to 10 seconds at 720p with better audio.

On the API side, text-to-video is one of five request modes the video endpoint supports, next to image-to-video, reference-image guidance, video editing, and video extension. Artifio.ai runs it in the same workspace as 100+ other models, billed per generation from one wallet.

## Features

- Generates clips from 1 to 15 seconds long, set by a duration parameter.
- Two output resolutions: 480p (the default, tuned for speed) and 720p.
- Seven aspect ratios: 16:9 by default, plus 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, and 2:3.
- Asynchronous request-and-poll workflow; the official SDKs handle polling automatically with a 10-minute default timeout.
- Output can be handed straight to the family's extension mode, which continues a finished clip from its last frame into a longer scene.
- Per-second output billing that rises with resolution.

## What people use it for

- Short social clips in vertical 9:16 or widescreen 16:9 without shooting footage.
- B-roll, mood pieces, and atmospheric loops for video editing timelines.
- Storyboard previsualisation, turning script beats into rough moving shots before production.
- Prompt-driven ad variations where many short takes are generated and the best is kept.

## Reported strengths

- The 1-to-15-second duration range is wide for a text-to-video endpoint and goes well past the six-second clips the consumer app launched with.
- One model covers five video modes, so a text-to-video result can be edited or extended without switching systems.
- The 480p default keeps iteration fast and cheap while drafts are being refined.
- Documented status lifecycle (pending, done, expired, failed) makes production integration predictable.

## Reported limitations

- 1080p output is not available in text-to-video mode; within the family it is reserved for the newer 1.5 model's image-to-video path.
- Generation is asynchronous and can take several minutes, with longer durations and higher resolutions slowing it further.
- Finished videos arrive on temporary URLs and must be downloaded or stored promptly.
- Sharper 720p output has to be requested explicitly and costs more per second than the default.
